'We can't be beaten'

10 December 2009

A statement on the traditional notice board of Australian workplaces encapsulates the determination of Nyrstar workers to get a fair deal.

A vote for the most recent offer from Nyrstar to it's Port Pirie smelter workforce has been determined for a third time in the negative, as workers continue to push for a decent guarunteed wages outcome (the real deal). Following the vote this message could be found in the facilities, just in case the vote was not enough to make it clear - that the workers at Nyrstar will not give in.

This confirms the position as outlined on regional radio by AWU Branch Secretary Wayne Hanson that 'The people pulling the levers for Nyrstar in down town London are behaving like intransigent boofheads.'

'The determination of these workers is to be admired and this sends a clear message to the bosses, the note on the cistern says it all: 'We can't be beaten', simple as that.' He said.
